Smooth as butter… Urbanbutter.
For all of those who couldn’t make it this past weekend to our beautiful city’s downtown, you missed a great show! The 3rd annual Urbanbutter showcase took place down at the Waterfront Wearhouse. Although the venue changed from last year, some the best riders in the east were there to show off their skills.
There was snowboarding and skiing going on all night, with a 30 foot screen showing Olympic events (us wining 3 Golds!!) with some great access to the bar/food inside. The music was playing and the vibe was great, despite the torrential rain the day before. There were 3 rails set up with the competition being in a rail jam style. Heats were set up so judges could catch every run and not miss anyone. There were a few terrible bails, with one of the first guys to hit the set up leaving in a stretcher (we hope you’re ok!) and definitely a few boards with some serious damage.
The night was a success, with people throwing some sick tricks, pushing each other and landing those last few to land themselves into the top spots.
And the results are for anyone who missed out:
Men’s Snowboarding: 1st Ben Horlings (walked away with $1000 and lots of great gear/product), 2nd Dustin Marshell (walked away with $500 and more swag) & 3rd Dave Graunn
Women’s Snowboarding: 1st Charlotte Butcher (walked away with $500 and tons of swag!), 2nd Anne Gillbert & 3rd Sarah Payzant
Men’s Skiing: 1st Collin Southerland (also walked away with $1000 bucks!), 2nd Charles Stevens & 3rd Chris Slaunwhite
There was a party afterwards at the waterfront Warehouse where all of us spectators went in to get warm and with the riders still in snowboard gear partying just as hard as everyone else. Tons of product was handed out through out the night. It was a mellow hang out with some great dance sessions by a few drunken participants! Love it. Get times had by all!
Almost all of the ProSkates/ProGirl family was out to play and it was great to see everyone.
A big thank you goes out to Dwayne at Urbanbutter for putting this on for the 3rd year, and all the other local shops/sponsors who where a part of it also. We’re all making snowboarding and skiing a bigger part of everyday life here on the east coast! And of course to all the participants who threw down, it wouldn’t be possible with out you!
Here are some photos from the night! If you hae any feel free to send them to Sarah @ info-progirl@hotmail.com
See you on the hill.

Who was the wildest? Cole Parsons was.
Early last Saturday morning, Martock gathered youth of all abilities and from all areas for Youth Gone Wild 3! All participants were age 13 and under, and other then their size, you’d never know it… Some of these kids cruised through the park with such ease and style, you know the kind that most of us try to achieve our whole snowboarding lives. The progression within the competition was awesome, with some kids hitting the biggest features with no thoughts on how hard they could hit the ground. The morning went by quickly, with Sparkles on the mic calling tricks and yelling some encouragement. It was a laid back atmosphere, kids just taking run after run and trying to land the best tricks. The kids were stoked on their runs and even more excited about the prizes!
Cole Parsons was the big winner for the event walking away with some Anon goggles and other swag. There were so many kids that threw down and won some cool items, including both the ladies who participated!
All participants were proud to wear “I ride for Kevin” arm bands, showing their support for the Burton Team rider who is now out of a coma.
A big thank you to Jon Sparkes our local Burton rep who has put this competition for the last 3 years. He never forgets the little guys!
See you on the hill!
Sarah
They’re ALL crazy! OMG, It’s Youth Gone WILD!!!!
You know those kids that fly through the park? Hitting everything in sight, spinning with ease and hucking themselves off of features without a thought of what it’s going to feel like if they land it wrong… yeah, those ones. Well, if you want to see them ALL in action, be at Martock this SATURDAY.
In the words of Mr. Jon Sparkes ”This weekend is the 3 annual YOUTH GONE WILD contest brought to you by Burton Snowboards, Martock, Gravis Footwear, Anon Optics and RED Protection”
Soooo the down low is;
THIS Saturday FEB 13TH 2010
Sign up starts at 9am in the Burton tent.
Contest runs from 10am – 12pm
Parents or Guardians must sign up their lil rippers.
This is a strictly grom snowboard contest, 13 and younger only.

Omatic Snowboards are here!
Proskates is proud to announce a new addition to our list of brands: Omatic Snowboards was started last year and features the snow shralping talents of the legendary Todd Richards along with dudes like Hampus Mosesson, Louis Vito, Mike Casanova, and a girl…Chanelle Sladics.
Omatic is a small company with a good crew of talented people who like to keep the fun in snowboarding…the way it should be.
We only have a small offering to start, but hopefully with your support we can make Omatic a more recognizble brand here in our small scene of Atlantic Canada.
Here is a brief run down.
The Celebrity:

This is the Louis Vito model its a twin design and it features things like SINTERED base, DUALSLANT™ sidewall technology, TRIAXIAL fiberglass matrix, DUALBEAM™ carbon/kevlar laminates, CLEVERCORE™ technology, TRIRADIAL™ sidecut technology and MEN’S Park flex pattern. This one features artwork by Cali street artist Persue.
The Sweet:

Remember Opertation? Oh you still play it? weird…Anyway. This is the Hampus Mosesson model and the Swede chose such features as SINTERED base, DUALSLANT™ sidewall technology, TRIAXIAL fiberglass matrix, DUALBEAM™ carbon/kevlar laminates, CLEVERCORE™ technology, TRIRADIAL™ sidecut technology its a “twinish” design and it has the MEN’S Freestyle flex pattern.
The Extr-Eco:

Being green is so hot right now…Omatic are changing the game with some new eco-friendly snowboard construction…I’ll paste the description of the board taken from the Omatic website.
“This unique production process means that the only environment put in jeopardy by Omatic, is the one in the land of make believe. That’s something we can all feel good about. The new EXTR-ECO features our cruelty-free VERTWALL™ sidewall technology for peaceful, powerful turns. The combination of a recycleable INTELIGENTCORE™, optional B.S. base tech and a certified organic TRIAXIAL fiberglass matrix give this new stick more pop than a turbo Hybrid Hummer.”
Hows that sound hippy? Just kidding, Proskates loves the environment.
Last but not least…
The Boron:

The Boron is your “all-around-good-ol’-go-fast-do-anything-you-want-board” I’ll list the tech deets but thats it, because we really want you to come in and see these babies for yourself…The Tech is as follows: VERTWALL™ sidewall technology, BIAXIAL fiberglass matrix, XBEAM™ carbon laminates, INTELLIGENT™ technology, DUALRADIAL™ sidecut technology, SINTRUDED base and MEN’S freeride/freestyle flex pattern.
And there you have it…see you at the hill bro.
