Ladies Skate Night
Hello girls,
Skate Night is going to be starting Monday, June 8. That trend will continue every Monday for a while, and we will meet at the Commons at around 6:30. If by some off chance the weather just isn’t working out in our favour (rain, tsunamis, etc.) we will just catch you the following Monday instead!
Remember girls — no experience is really needed, just an interest in skateboarding. Skate Night is definitely not about getting “lessons”, but instead it is more so about hanging out with a bunch of chicks that love to skate just like you. Regardless of what level you are skating at, you can be guaranteed lots of support and good times.
Ps: The cops have been handing out tickets like crazy these days. Everyone should take their helmets out just to avoid any trouble with the 5-0. Not to mention safety first, the concrete packs a hard punch.
Keep on rockin’ in a free world, home girls
See you next Monday!

Return of Vert Dog
By Tyler Knowlton, Ottawa Ontario
I got an email from Zach a little while back saying that he was going to be in Montreal for a Wolves in the Throne Room show and that I should meet him there. why not – MTL is only an hour and a half away by train, the Nuts is there and Taz is boasting a giant wooden bowl/miniramp complex that deserved some investigation. So I packed a bag and hit the rails.
Oh Via Rail, my old friend. So slow, never on time, but free wifi is dope
The nuts is always som stoked to see me. Here he can barely contain the joy within
The man is well equipped for any Vert Dog outbursts

I have to say that Taz is a really, really awesome skatepark. My Jaw dropped when I first walked into their new building. The facilities are imaculate. The bathrooms are clean, the staff is friendly, the drinks are cheap and of courese the park is insane. Don’t judge the park by their website like I did. The site can be misleading with its janky design and bike/rollerblade/slalom/dancing photos. All of that weirdness comes way back behind second to the radness of the obstacles and their perfect construction. The street course is frankly intimidating for someone coming out of six months of skating enclosed pools and ramps where one person is in the mix at once (more o less) But once you work out the criss cross lines it has tons of potential. Multiple surfaces for every street replicated experience possible.
The bowl and minramp setup is great. The mini ramp is 5 feet-ish with two 6 foot extensions, one at either end. This spines long into the bowl of 5 ft aswell. The bowl corners are fast a sfuck once you figure out where the slippage point is and can really start coming on to your carves. The hip is great, the trannies are nice and steet. The coping is way to smooth and oily for my taste but it goes like stink. More of a slide than a grind. While we’re on the coping, it is also a little on the mellow side for me as well. I like a good solid Ka-chunk when I’m popping out – don’t get me wrong this is far from Noping that can be found on so many ramps – you can still lock into a smith grind – I’m just picking on the only mini-flaw.
All in all, the park is super fun and you can bet you’ll see an Ottawa crew there more often than not. Thanks for the Kicks VD – we’ll hit that bowl again next week maybe -

SALTY DOG TOUR!!!
Thirty plus years of Skull Skates skateboards has not yielded a single tour …. Until now.
Skull Skates announces their first ever skate tour to take place in what some would consider unlikely locations and with an eclectic mix of skaters from diverse backgrounds.
Dubbed the Salty Dog Tour, in reference to the assemblage of seasoned vets and also because of the Maritime skatepark destinations located in the Eastern Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, the tour promises a commitment to hardcore skating first and foremost.
The Nomad Bill Danforth of Detroit Michigan, Barry Walsh and Marc Tison of Montreal Quebec, Mike McKinlay of Vancouver British Columbia and Brent Jordan of Toronto Ontario are set to storm skate spots flying the Skull Skates pirate flag. Demo / jams are confirmed in Bathurst, NB on May 27th, Moncton, NB on May 28th, Halifax, NS on May 29th and Chester, NS on May 30th.
For more detailed information see attached poster. Presented in part by Concrete Magazine, C1RCA, SBC Magazine and Expose Magazine. Hosted by Culture Skateboards, Surface Skateshop, Pro Skates and Homegrown Skateboards.

Zee Luggage here at Pro Girl is trés magnifique.
Bonjour.
Mon nom est Francoise, and I was once a very sad lady. For a while I called the basement at Pro Girl my home, but this was not always le case. I came from Paris with hopes of getting some new digs, but did not plan on staying. Next thing I know, I was.. how do you say… broke and living in the le basement. The girls let me do a petit amount of modelling to make money and now I am ready to return to my homeland. I was faced avec le problem of having no luggage to take mon tres belle clothing back with me, but le solution was right here in the store! There is a Grandé selection of fantastique Luggage. Burton, Dakine, I could hardly choose. I could not imagine travelling any other way but in style for le rest of time.
So that is mon life story, I will greatly miss everyone at Pro Girl.

May Two Four Pool Barge
By Tyler Knowlton – Ottawa, ON
If you didn’t know it already, May 2-4 long weekend is the weekend that all pools in Canada are cleaned but not filled – thus the perfect time for backyard barging. Let mwe tell ya, find an old Motel or park or richer’s house and get down to business. This year’s crew included Richard, The Baron, Ian, Jack and Myself.
It’s Important to have the right tools for the job. BTW, a shredz hoody works great for sopping up the last splahies after a diaper wiper (I need a new one if anyone is listening)
The Baron’s Van is always well equipped
This particular pool is pretty well hidden but it was still a good idea to keep seated in the shallow end to avoid detection by road piggies

All in it was a rad day – Thanks Richard for drying and finding. Thanks to the guy on his balcony for telling us which way to go when the cops came. Peace out for now. Get a bucket.
